King’s Wood lies in the heart of East Kent, near to Canterbury, Ashford and Faversham. It is readily accessible by main roads and visitors are welcome throughout the year.

Please note that the Car Park is NOT next to the Forest Studio (former SVA office).
Separate instructions
are given below to the Car Park and the Stour Valley Arts Gallery .
- Take the A28 to Canterbury and then the A251 to Faversham.
- Stay on the A251 and go through the villages of Kennington and Boughton Aluph, you will then drive through the countryside for a couple of miles and then come into Challock.
- Just before you come to the first houses in Challock (if you reach ‘Victoriana Nursery Gardens’ on your left then you have gone too far), take a right hand turn to Wye. Follow this road for approx 1/3 mile and you will see the forest car park on your left.
- Take the A28 to Ashford
- Then at Chilham take the A252 to Charing/Maidstone
- When you come to the Challock roundabout, turn left onto the A251 towards Ashford.
- Stay on this road until you reach a left hand turn to Wye (approx 1/4 mile).
- Follow the road to Wye for approx 1/3 mile and you will see the forest car park on your left.
- Take Junction 6, (A251) to Ashford.
- You will come to the Challock roundabout, continue straight ahead staying on the A251.
- Stay on this road until you reach a left hand turn to Wye (approx 1/4 mile).
- Follow the road to Wye for approx 1/3 mile and you will see the forest
car park on your left.
By Train:
The nearest stations are Chilham, Charing and Wye. The nearest mainline stations are Ashford, Faversham and Canterbury.

We welcome disabled visitors and our new gallery has disabled access. We can provide advice to make your visit more enjoyable. The terrain of the forest can be quite challenging, making access to the sculptures difficult. We are in partnership with DADA South East to establish working relationships with disabled artists.
Directions to Stour Valley Arts Gallery at Elwick House:
Stour Valley Art's offices and gallery are located in Elwick House, Elwick Road, Ashford, TN23 1NR. The building can be reached easily on foot from Ashford's domestic and international stations - about a 10-minute walk from the domestic exit. Cross the road and at the traffic lights cross again, follow signs for central Ashford and head along Elwick Rd with the railway line on your left. Stour Valley Arts Gallery is on the right hand side before you reach Debenhams.
Bus services to and from Faversham (666 currently operated by Kent Top Travel/KCC) stop at Park Street, which is just off the high street and is a 2-minute walk from Elwick House. Buses also drop and pick-up from the stations. For information about bus times call Kent Top Travel on 01622 605928.
Parking is accessible via the rear of the building - drivers need to approach Elwick House via Church Rd and Queen St, turning left into the lane at the end of Queen St and turning right down the side of the building to the parking spaces at the front.
From Whitstable/Faversham/M2:
Take the Ashford Rd/A251 (M2 Junction 6), which passes through several villages. At Challock, go straight across roundabout at Halfway House Pub.
Continue straight on downhill through wooded area and Boughton Aluph village. At first traffic lights go straight on, passing Towers School on your left, through Kennington. At next lights, turn right onto Canterbury Rd/A28 . Take the left lane to stay on Canterbury Rd/A28. At the Shell Garage lights, turn left at Somerset Rd/A292 and right at next lights onto Wellesley Rd A2042 . Turn right at the lights onto Elwick Rd A292 and next right into Church Rd. Take the first left into Queen St (new Gateway Plus/library on corner) and at the end of the terrace on your left you will see conifer trees: a short lane on the left leads you to Elwick House. Turn right down the side of the building to the parking spaces at the front.
From Canterbury
At the Canterbury Wincheap roundabout, take the exit onto Wincheap A28, passing through Thannington . At the roundabout take the 3 rd exit onto Ashford Rd A28, through Chartham. Take the left turn Canterbury Rd A28 through Godmersham and past Wye. Stay on the A28 into central Ashford . At Shell Garage lights, turn left at Somerset Rd/A292 and right at next lights onto the Wellesley Rd A2042 . Take the right turn at the lights onto Elwick Rd A292 and next right into Church Rd.
